The Bachelor of Science in Business program is designed to prepare graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills and values to effectively apply various business principles and tools in an organizational setting. The Bachelor of Science in Business entry sequence exposes students to valuable theoretical knowledge and best practices in the areas of management, organizational behavior, research and evaluation, and critical thinking and problem solving. In all program course work, the curriculum addresses critical business issues in the areas of diversity, globalization, ethics, technology and e-business.

The Bachelor of Science in Business offers the following concentrations:

Accounting
The Bachelor of Science in Business degree program with a concentration in Accounting promotes identification with and orientation to the accounting profession. Core competencies in technology, critical thinking, and communication are emphasized throughout the curriculum. Students also have broad exposure to varied business disciplines, including management, organizational behavior, economics, statistics and finance.

Administration
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Administration is designed to enable graduates to deal effectively with an increasingly complex business environment. The concentration courses stress skill development in the areas of management, decision making, accounting and finance, quantitative analysis, economics, marketing, and utilization of research findings.

Communication
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Communications promotes the knowledge and skills needed for effective communication within the business environment. The curriculum emphasizes professional competencies and values in such areas as public relations, communications theory, communication law and ethics, mass communication, media and advertising, and electronic publishing.

e-Business
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in e-Business focuses on the theory, skills and values associated with a business environment that increasingly depends on Internet technology. Students learn the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively integrate e-business tools, models, and best practices within various types of organizations.

Finance
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Finance emphasizes financial concepts, theories, and practices to promote well-informed financial decision making. Coursework within this concentration examines the areas of risk management, business law, global finance, and investment analysis and portfolio management. Students integrate advanced topics in financial management through real-world business application.

Global Business Management
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Global Business Management examines the dynamic nature of global business realities. Emphasizing fundamental principles and practices of conducting global business activities, the curriculum within this concentration includes international marketing, international trade and investment, global finance, global human resource management and global value-chain management.

Green and Sustainable Enterprise Management
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Green and Sustainable Enterprise Management will prepare students for management careers based on sustainable business practices. The program emphasizes the development of skills in operating standards, enterprise planning, social responsibility, sustainable management techniques.

Hospitality Management
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Hospitality Management develops students' knowledge and skills in lodging management, food and beverage operations management, facilities management, and events and recreation planning. Students learn about the impact of travel and tourism while examining hospitality issues and trends, e-business implications and operational structures.

Human Resource Management
Students in the human resource management concentration will build upon the managerial skills developed in the MBA required course of study by developing an understanding of human resource management concepts and applications. They will be sensitive to legal, ethical and social values in the conduct of human resource management practice. At the completion of the concentration, students will have knowledge of a substantial portion of the topics required for certification by the Society of Human Resource Professionals.

Information Systems
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Information Systems focuses on the role and implementation of information systems in today's business environment. Students learn the fundamentals of business systems development and project planning and implementation, as well as concepts in software programming, database analysis and design and telecommunication systems.

Integrated Supply Chain & Operations Management
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Integrated Supply Chain and Operations Management highlights the important role a supply chain plays in satisfying customer demands and expectations. This concentration's coursework focuses on strategic performance improvement of all business planning, global sourcing and procurement, production, and logistical activities that make up an organization's supply chain.

Management
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Management focuses on managing human and fiscal resources within the structure, culture and mission of any organization. The curriculum stresses skill development in the areas of critical thinking and decision making, organizational behavior, global business strategies, quality management and productivity, human resource management, and employment law.

Marketing
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Marketing is designed to develop students' creative, analytical and leadership skills. Coursework within this concentration examines sales management, buyer behavior, advertising, market research, and marketing to the international arena. Students learn to identify customers and customer needs, communicate product and service information, and develop and use marketing strategies.

Organizational Innovation

Public Administration
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Public Administration focuses on the efficient and effective utilization of public resources to achieve the public purpose within a dynamic environment. The curriculum within this concentration emphasizes the foundations of public administration, public policy formulation, program development, implementation and valuation, human resources and labor relations and public finance.

Retail Management
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Retail Management focuses the student on the retail management environment, from the beginning to the end of the retail value chain. The concentration courses in this program emphasize skill development in strategic management, marketing, supply management, product and brand management, retail operations, merchandising, and personnel management unique to the retail industry.

Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship
The Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship provides students with a course framework built around small business planning, financial management, and integrated business topics on entrepreneurship and small business management. Within the concentration, students can elect to study advanced concepts in small business marketing, leadership, family business management, operations management, and business law for entrepreneurs. They may also elect to explore in more depth either small business management or entrepreneurship studies as a function of their concentration electives. Students graduating with the Small Business/Entrepreneurship concentration will be prepared to address the challenges and opportunities specific to small business management and entrepreneurship.

Bachelor of Science in Communication


The Bachelor of Science in Communication (BS/COM) degree program is designed to develop knowledge and skills for effective communication in a variety of public and private work environments. The program was created specifically to build upon personal and professional communication experiences. The BS/COM degree enhances the communication skills necessary for the development of professional competence and values; critical thinking and problem solving; information utilization; and collaboration.

Communication and Technology
The concentration in Communication and Technology focuses on the enhancement of communication through technology, and offers the student an opportunity to explore creative communication solutions through Web sites, electronic publishing, image editing and multimedia development.

Culture and Communication
The concentration in Culture and Communication is designed to prepare students with a well-rounded view of diversity in American society. Students will focus on the experiences of people from different cultures and how communication differs by race and gender. In addition, students will gain a global perspective on race, ethnicity, and class in the United States. Students will compare cultural topics such as Asian American, African American, Hispanic American, gender, and their differences.

Marketing and Sales Communication
The concentration of Marketing and Sales Communications focuses on the science of humanistic interaction in marketing and sales. Emphasis is placed on understanding the psychology of behavior, and the impact that it has on marketing communication tools and strategies. The ethical responsibility associated with customer message management is also emphasized throughout the program.

Master of Business Administration


The Master of Business Administration program is designed to enhance the management skills students need to function effectively within an organization. Students will create and defend their solutions to problems of crisis management, profitable growth opportunities, and change leadership. Throughout the program, students gain experience in distilling a situation into a well-defined problem; applying tools and concepts to analyze a variety of alternative solutions; and selecting and defending their recommended course of action. The Master of Business Administration program at University of Phoenix utilizes problem-based learning where students refine their problem solving skills along with their communication, creativity, information utilization and critical thinking skills.

The Master of Business Administration program offers the following concentrations:

Accounting
Students in the accounting concentration will build upon the managerial skills developed in the MBA required course of study by developing an understanding of accounting concepts and applications. Students will also become competent in the use of appropriate analytical tools and technologies. They will be sensitive to legal, ethical and social values in the conduct and communication of accounting practice and decisions. In addition, students will have an understanding of a portion of the topics required in preparation for the CPA exam: Audit & Attestation, Financial Accounting & Reporting, Regulation, and Business Environment & Concepts.

Global Management
The global management concentration is designed for students who want to expand business cross-border or manage within a multi-national organization. Students completing the global management concentration will develop the managerial skills emphasized within the MBA required course of study in the context of cross-border business opportunities. Students will understand the challenges presented by international economic, political, legal and socio-cultural differences.

Health Care Management
The health care management concentration is designed for students wanting to develop skills in the management of business operations in health care services organizations, health care related industries, small individual or group practices, and health insurance. Students in the health care management concentration will develop the managerial skills emphasized within the MBA required course of study in the context of challenges faced in the health care industry. They will be sensitive to legal, ethical and social values in the management of health care resources.

Human Resources Management
Students in the human resource management concentration will build upon the managerial skills developed in the MBA required course of study by developing an understanding of human resource management concepts and applications. They will be sensitive to legal, ethical and social values in the conduct of human resource management practice. At the completion of the concentration, students will have knowledge of a substantial portion of the topics required for certification by the Society of Human Resource Professionals.

Marketing
Students in the marketing concentration will build upon the managerial skills developed in the MBA required course of study program by developing an understanding of marketing concepts and applications. Students will develop and communicate innovative approaches to stakeholders in a socially responsible manner and will be well positioned for several professionally recognized marketing certification exams.

Technology Management
